About Parkway Northwest HS for Peace and Social Justice

Parkway Northwest High School for Peace & Social Justice (PSJ) is Philadelphia’s first college preparatory public high school committed to the principles of peace, social justice, and conflict resolution.  Building on the Parkway tradition using the city’s resources as a classroom, our school has an active group of community organizations and leaders working to build peace and social justice in our community.  Our teachers bring these topics into class as often as possible and are focused on fulfilling our school’s mission to help our students succeed both academically in the classroom and as leaders in our community.

Our Mission

The Parkway Northwest High School for Peace & Social Justices’ mission is to prepare students to face a complex world with the skills necessary to institute positive change locally and globally.  Our school offers a rigorous college preparatory program designed to help our students succeed academically, socially, and personally through the analysis of peace and social justice topics using critical thinking, problem solving, cooperative learning and research.

Peace and Social Justice Report

“Parkway Northwest is a Philadelphia hidden gem.  The small student population affords high school students the opportunity to have more personal attention than at most larger sized public high schools in the city.  The teachers and administrators genuinely care about each and every student and their academic success.  Principal MacFarland is a hands-on, accessible, and transparent  leader.  We love him and Parkway!”
